NEW ALBUM OUT: M. LAMAR “THE BLACK DEATH”

Fans of Diamanda Galas, Nina Simone, Antony and the Johnsons need to make sure they’re aware of M. Lamar. I’ve been a fan of M. Lamar for a few years now and have watched Lamar evolve from a sex symbol to a deeply provocative singer songwriter. A few months ago he played a show at my old place in Oakland; Ariel Goldberg and Debutante shared the bill. His intricate grotesque lyrics and his Klaus Nomi esq delivery demands your time. SARA LARSEN: 23 CHROMOSOMES FOR DAVID WOJNAROWICZ

 

Very recently, I received a copy of poet Sara Larsen’s new anthology “23 Chromosomes.” All titles in the collection are from various art pieces by David Wojnarowicz, the book is for him; basically the collection is Wojnarowicz, Rimbaud paraphrased, quoted, appropriated, entwined in these poems. All the Rimbaud that was used is from “Illuminations”. Here are a few of the poems:

CLARA ENGEL WANTS TO COME WEST! PLUS INTERVIEW

I first caught wind of Clara Engel about a year ago, I blogged about her before at Fantastic Weapon, now she’s trying to come to the West Coast for her first ever West Coast Tour. Needless to say, I’m a big fan of her work and I’m trying to help her make the jump to California. Her music is beautiful/captivating/smart/eccentric/androgynous and her voice the driving factor pulling the wondrous work together.

Since it is the Holiday season and we’re all starving cause we hate everything, I thought I’d put together a little cheer up! My favorite albums/films/books/whatever I fucking feel like of 2008! These are not the best things ever nor were they necessarily made in 2008, I’m just getting nostalgic about the past year and what made me happiest!
